Amanda Seyfried teases plans for a “Jennifer’s Body” sequel and she can’t wait for the chance to play Needy again…

Jennifer Check may soon be resurrected.

Ahead of the release of her upcoming film “Long Bright River,” actor Amanda Seyfried looked back at some of her most iconic roles including 2009’s “Jennifer’s Body” and she revealed that plans are in motion for a sequel. While she didn’t give any specific timeline when that might happen, Seyfried was excited for the chance to return to the role of Needy, which became one of her favorite parts.

“I’m looking forward to the sequel,” Seyfried told GQ. “They’re working on it. I already said thumbs up. I was like, ‘Whenever you’re ready, I’m ready.’ Because I want to play Needy. I love Needy.”

“Jennifer’s Body” centered around two best friends — Jennifer (played by Megan Fox), the most popular girl who ends up being possessed by a demon after she’s kidnapped by a band who attempts to sacrifice her for their own fame and fortune — and her mousy best friend Needy, who is forced to stop her after she goes on a murderous rampage through their high school.  The film was directed by Karyn Kusama with a script from Diablo Cody.

When looking back at the film, Seyfried noted how a misguided marketing campaign that basically tailored the film to appeal to men doomed the theatrical release for a movie that was really about female empowerment and the close bonds between women.

“If the critics criticize anything, it would be the marketing,” Seyfried said about the film’s release. “The marketing sucked. It just did. And we all agree.”

While “Jennifer’s Body” did go onto make $31 million at the box office on a $16 million budget, the film was largely seen as a flop but the movie found new life after release on home video. These days, “Jennifer’s Body” is widely considered a cult classic and a favorite amongst horror fans.

“The special effects were so incredible, there were stunts, there was like everything that you could want. and girl-on-girl action,” Seyfried said about the film “We were expressing a certain angst in a very, very specific comedic way.

“I think that Karyn [and Diablo were a really good team,” Seyfried said. “And Megan and I are a really good team.”

Of course, Seyfried noted that Jennifer died in the first film but that’s never stopped a sequel from happening before.

“But she’s kind of dead, right?” Seyfried said. “But is she? But is she? I don’t think she is.”

It remains to be seen when or if a “Jennifer’s Body” sequel happens but obviously Seyfried is pretty excited about the possibility.
