“Alien Earth” is officially returning for season 2 on FX/Hulu.
The spinoff series based on the original “Alien” film from 1979 has been renewed for second season with series creator Noah Hawley also re-upping his overall deal with Disney as well.
“Alien Earth” takes place before the events in “Alien” after a Weyland-Yutani research vessel crash lands on Earth with numerous alien species that were captured from the deepest reaches of space. One of those creatures is the deadly Xenomorph and it’s safe to say all hell breaks loose.
“It has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future,” FX Chairman John Landgraf said in a statement. “Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories— and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”
Of course before making “Alien Earth,” Hawley was already entrenched at FX after making several seasons of the award winning series “Fargo” as well as the Marvel comic based show “Legion.”
“Alien Earth” became Hawley’s latest passion project and he finally realized his dream with the series debuting to good reviews and a solid overall reception for the first season.
The show stars Sydney Chandler in the lead role as well as Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El.
As far as Hawley goes, his new deal keeps him in place at FX and Disney for the foreseeable future.
“I’m thrilled that this expanded deal opens the door to new opportunities across all of Disney Entertainment Television,” Hawley said. “FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”
Production on “Alien Earth” season 2 is expected to begin sometime in 2026.
