The new “Robocop” TV series is taking shape with James Wan producing the series through his Atomic Monster label…

Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.

The long rumored “Robocop” TV series is starting to take shape at Amazon MGM studios with a showrunner hired to develop and lead the show with James Wan serving as an executive producer through his Atomic Monster studio label.

Based on the 1987 film directed by Paul Verhoeven, the “Robocop” TV series has been in the works for quite some time but now there’s real movement on the show becoming a reality.

Peter Ocko — best known for his work on series such as “Lodge 49,” “Black Sails” and “The Leftovers” — is set to serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the potential series in development.

The series will follow the same storyline as the original film as OCP — a massive tech corporation — teams with local police in Detroit after developing a new prototype built as half-man, half-machine to combat criminal activity that’s spiraling out of control in the city.

The “Robocop” series has long been in development after Amazon closed a deal to purchase MGM and began mining the studio’s filmography for ideas that could be redeveloped into new films and TV series. The original “Robocop” starring Peter Weller and Nancy Allen earned over $53 million at the box office and spawned two sequels before a remake was released in 2014 starring Samuel L. Jackson and Joel Kinnaman.
