In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we continue our series taking a deep dive on all the films in the “Alien” franchise as we review 2017’s “Alien: Covenant”…

The financial success of “Prometheus” led to director Ridley Scott carrying out his vision for a longer, more complex series of prequels set before his iconic 1979 classic “Alien.”

Scott sought to answer the many unanswered questions left in “Prometheus” with his original plan to follow Dr. Shaw to her next destination as she looked for answers from the Engineers.

“Prometheus” writer Damon Lindelof decided not to return and Scott teased that the next film wouldn’t involve the Xenomorphs at all but rather focus on David — the artificial person run amok in “Prometheus.” Several scripts were developed but it wasn’t until John Logan came on board that the project really took shape after he previously worked with Scott on “Gladiator.”

For Logan’s story, the main elements tied together the philosophy behind “Prometheus” and the relentless terror in “Alien.”

The film picks up a decade after the event of “Prometheus” as a new crew of explorers are headed to colonize a new planet deep in the reaches of space when an accident kills the captain and leaves them with a decision to make about forging ahead or stopping at an entirely different planet instead — one that features the same promise of paradise but what actually lurks there is more akin to hell…\
