From Art the Clown to a murderous Mickey Mouse….

David Howard Thornton — who is best known for portraying the mute, psychopathic clown in the “Terrifier” franchise — is set to portray a murderous mouse in the upcoming Steamboat Willie horror film titled “Screamboat.”

“I’m beyond excited to join this incredible cast and bring Steamboat Willie to life with a horror twist,” Thornton told Variety. “‘Screamboat’ is going to be a horrific and hilarious big screen thrill ride that fans won’t want to miss.”

Thornton will next be seen in “Terrifier 3” — the third film in the horror franchise from writer and director Damien Leone — that’s due out in October.

Steamboat Willie is the earliest version of Disney’s iconic Mickey Mouse, which entered public domain on January 1, which opened the door for artists to use the character in numerous mediums — including horror films.

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming Steamboat Willie horror film:

“‘Screamboat’ follows a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride that turns deadly when a mischievous mouse begins a rampage, targeting unsuspecting passengers. The unlikely crew must band together to thwart the murderous menace before their relaxing commute turns into a nightmare.”

Of course, the Steamboat Willie horror film follows in the footsteps of other cinematic masterpieces such as “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” which was another movie made after that character became part of teh public domain.

The cast for the film also includes Allison Pittel (“Stream”), Amy Schumacher (“The Mean One”), Jesse Posey (“Teen Wolf”), Jesse Kove (“Cobra Kai”), Rumi C Jean-Louis (“Hightown”),Jarlath Conroy (“Day of the Dead”) and Charles Edwin Powell (“The Exorcist III”).

Steven LaMorte is directing the upcoming film that’s due out in theaters in 2025.
