Bill Skarsgard will float again.
The actor who portrayed Pennywise the Clown in 2017’s “It” as well as the sequel “It: Chapter Two” is set to reprise his role and serve as an executive producer on the upcoming prequel series currently titled “Welcome to Derry.”
Skarsgard joins the “It” prequel where he reunites with director Andy Muschietti, who directed both of the feature films, and he’s returning to direct four of the nine episodes in the series that is set to stream on Max.
Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, “Welcome to Derry” — which is still a working title — is based on King’s “IT” novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films “IT” and “IT Chapter Two.”
Based on the original novel from Stephen King, the ‘It” prequel series looks to dig a little deeper into the mythology behind the evil force that haunted Derry, Maine for hundreds of years.
“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s ‘IT’ until the thick paperback fell to pieces,” Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti said in a shared quote when the series was first ordered. “‘IT’ is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our ‘IT’ movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror.”
Getting Skarsgard to return for the series is a welcome addition after he received rave reviews for his portrayal of Pennywise in the two “It” films. Of course, he’s been very busy with his film career lately as he currently stars in “Boy Kills World” and he has two more films coming out later this year with “The Crow” remake and the “Nosferatu” remake from director Robert Eggers.
The “It” prequel series is currently expected to debut on Max sometime in 2025.
