‘The Conjuring’ franchise has remained one of the most successful horror series of all time with 8 films grossing over $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
Following “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” lead stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga both expressed interest in returning for another film but it was later announced that the plans for that movie would set the stage as the final sequel involving famed demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Director Michael Chaves returned to helm the fourth film in the series with numerous screenwriters brought on board to pen the script.
This time around, the story revolved the Smurl haunting — an occurrence that kicked off in the 1980s after a family moved into a home in Pennsylvania and immediately started experiencing supposedly supernatural phenomenon. The Warrens were brought onto consult on the haunting and they actually teamed up with the family to release a book about the alleged hauntings.
The film version sees Ed and Lorraine Warren show up to the Smurl house ready for battle with a demon in a case so terrifying that it serves as their final investigation …
