The director behind the viral horror hit “When Evil Lurks” says he’s already completed a script for the sequel with hopes that the movie gets made…
“When Evil Lurks” was one of the best reviewed and most well received horror films when it was released back in 2023 and now writer and director Demián Rugna reveals that he’s already completed a script for the sequel.
While he’s still waiting to find a studio to produce the project, Rugna revealed recently that he’s finished the first draft of the script with plans to make some necessary revisions before he would actually shoot anything. The original “When Evil Lurks” counted streaming service Shudder among its financiers so it’s entirely possibly the AMC owned network could consider teaming with him again.
“I’ve already written the sequel,” Rugna told Gelatina, an Argentine streaming channel. “We’re just waiting for the funding to come through. The studio wants to move forward, everything is in place. I just need to make a few script revisions.”
“When Evil Lurks” centers around two brothers who encounter a demon-infected soul and they are determined to protect their family but instead they accidentally unleash an evil that begins possessing more and more people around their small town. That forces the brothers to race against time to save their family from an inevitable possession that typically ends with gruesome results.
The film was extremely well received when it was released with “When Evil Lurks” maintaining solid reviews along with numerous award nominations and wins after being released.
Now it appears Rugna is ready to run it back with a new idea for a “When Evil Lurks” sequel and it’s just a matter of finding the financial backing the produce the film after Shudder previously teamed with La Puerta Roja — a joint venture partnership between the Argentine-based Aramos Cine and Machaco Films — to make the movie.
Rugna’s other film “Terrified” is another viral hit that’s also available for streaming on Shudder.
