The upcoming “Carrie” adaptation from Mike Flanagan has filled out the entire cast with Summer Howell taking on the lead role and Samantha Sloyan playing her domineering mother…
The cast for the upcoming “Carrie” adaptation on Amazon Prime Video from Mike Flanagan — based on the original book from horror master Stephen King — has officially been announced.
As previously reported, Summer Howell — best known for her past role in “Cult of Chucky” — has been cast in the lead role as Carrie White, the reclusive teen with telekinetic powers at the center of the series. Samantha Sloyan — who has made appearances in several of Flanagan’s past series including “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” — has been cast as Carrie’s controlling mother Margaret White.
“Scream” favorite Matthew Lillard is also part of the cast playing Principal Grayle while Amber Midthunder — best known from her appearances in “Prey” and the recent action film “Novocaine” — is joining “Carrie” to play Miss Desjardin.
Alison Thornton — best known from “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce“ is set to play bullying villain Chris Hargensen while Thalia Dudek (“The Running Man”) is set to play Emaline and Siena Agudong (“The 4:30 Movie“) plays Sue Snell. Arthur Conti (“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”) is set to play Billy while Joel Oulette (“Sullivan’s Crossing”) rounds out the cast as Tommy.
The new “Carrie” series is described as a reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.
Flanagan is serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the eight episode first season and he is also set to direct several episodes as well.
Of course, “Carrie” has been adapted before — most famously with the 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma that starred Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie with both actors earning Academy Award nominations for their performances. Another film adaptation was released in 2013 with Chloe-Grace Moretz in the lead role with Julianne Moore playing her mother.
