Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s classic “Carrie” has been ordered to series by Amazon with casting underway for the project…

Mike Flanagan has another Stephen King adaptation headed to production.

The prolific writer and director, who has adapted several of King’s past stories including “Doctor Sleep,” “Gerald’s Game” and the upcoming film “The Life of Chuck,” is tackling another classic novel from the master of horror. This time, he’s bringing “Carrie” to life on the small screen with a new series officially ordered at Amazon Prime Video.

Flanagan’s adaptation of “Carrie” is described as “a bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”

In the original story, Carrie is a shy, introverted teenager who gets tormented by some of the other girls at her high school while she’s living under the thumb of her overly religious and abusive mother. When Carrie finally attempts to step out of her shell with the help of a few classmates, she’s tortured once again by bullies at school but this time her telekinetic powers seek revenge as she lashes out at anybody and everybody at her senior prom.

Of course, “Carrie” has been adapted several times in the past — most famously in the 1976 film from Brian De Palma with Sissy Spacek in the lead role as Carrie White.

While no official announcements have been made yet, a couple of key characters have already reportedly been cast in the new “Carrie” adaptation including the lead role with Summer H. Howell — best known for her work on film such as “Hunter, Hunter” and the recent Netflix movie “Time Cut” — is being eyed for the lead role as Carrie White.

Meanwhile, Siena Agudong — who just recently appeared in Kevin Smith’s film “The 4:30 Movie” as well as the “Resident Evil” TV series — has been cast as Sue Snell, one of the key high school characters in the original “Carrie” novel.

In the book and the original film from 1976, Sue initially bullies Carrie alongside her friends after succumbing to peer pressure but she eventually relents and tries to befriend the shy teen. She even asks her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom where the infamous scene where pigs’ blood gets dropped on her after she’s crowned queen.

Expect a lot more casting news to be revealed soon now that “Carrie” has officially been ordered to series at Amazon.
