Darren Aronofsky, who has directed films such as “Black Swan,” “Requiem for a Dream” and “The Whale,” is now in talks to direct “Cujo” at Netflix…

Netflix may have just landed an Academy Award nominated director for an upcoming horror film.

Darren Aronofsky — best known for his work on films such “Requiem for a Dream,” “The Wrestler,” “The Whale” and “Black Swan,” which earned him an Oscar nod for Best Director — is in talks to helm the upcoming “Cujo” remake based on the original book from Stephen King.

Roy Lee, who previously produced film such as “IT: Chapter One” and “It: Chapter Two” as well as the recent “Salem’s Lot” remake, is producing the new film with a screenwriter for the project still to be determined.

The original novel released in 1981 follows a mother and son, who get trapped inside a car with their beloved Saint Bernard trying to attack them after being bitten by a rabid bat. The book was eventually adapted into a 1983 film of the same name starring Dee Wallace.

While Aronofsky is probably best known for his “art-house” films, he’s definitely dabbled in horror before with movies like “Black Swan,” which scored five Academy Award nominations, and the movie “Mother!” starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Aronofsky also directed “The Whale” in 2022, which earned Brendan Fraser an Oscar win for Best Actor.

Right now, the prolific director is wrapping up his latest film titled “Caught Stealing” — a crime drama starring Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz — that is set for release on August 29. If all goes well, Aronofsky would then turn his full attention to the upcoming “Cujo” remake at Netflix.
