Another horror series has been canceled after the satanic panic 80s set show “Hysteria” was cancelled by Peacock after just a single season…

“Hysteria” — the satanic panic 80s set horror series from creator Matthew Scott Kane — has been cancelled after only one season on Peacock.

The show debuted on the streaming service in October 2024 with episodes also airing week to week on the USA Network. “Hysteria” was picked up to series in 2022 and actually started filming in 2023 but production was shut down during the writers and actors’ strikes before everything resumed again later that year.

“Hysteria” starred Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Bruce Campbell and featured appearances from horror icons such as Barbara Crampton and Jeffrey Combs.

The show centered around a high school quarterback who goes missing and the small town soon convinced by the Satanic Panic of that era that dark and sinister forces were involved in his disappearance. That’s when a teenager in a local heavy metal band gets the idea to rebrand his group as Satan worshippers but when a series of murders and crimes start happening around town, the angry mob starts looking for a scapegoat and the musicians who suddenly have an affinity for pentagrams and supposedly worshipping Satan immediately become the prime suspects.

Peacock doesn’t release streaming numbers so it’s impossible to know what kind of viewership “Hysteria” received during its first season but the show maintained strong reviews with a 91% approval on the site Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s unfortunate news for horror fans with “Hysteria” joining “Teacup” as a pair of shows ordered at Peacock but now both have been cancelled after only a single season.

For what it’s worth, “Hysteria” definitely deserved more attention and if you haven’t caught the series yet, it’s still available on Peacock and you can also catch our special episode where we welcomed creator Matthew Scott Kane to the show to discuss the origins behind the show and everything that unfolded during the first season.
