“Yellowjackets” is officially returning for season 4.
On Tuesday, the horror series was renewed for a fourth season by Showtime after the third season produced the highest viewership for the show since it first launched. The season 3 finale became the most streamed “Yellowjackets” episode in series history as well.
Co-created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, “Yellowjackets” exists across two timelines — one following a girl’s soccer team desperately trying to survive after a plane crash leaves them stranded in the wilderness and the other taking place 25 years later as the last remaining survivors from that plane crash realize that teh past is coming back to haunt them.
“Yellowjackets has become a cultural juggernaut; with season three shattering all previous records, we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+,” Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement.
“Ashley and Bart have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon: a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”
When “Yellowjackets” season 3 ended, Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) managed to use a repaired radio to reach out for help and she actually hears a response, which means that the team could be nearing rescue. Meanwhile, in present day, the remaining Yellowjackets suffer a terrible tragedy after Van is killed in a struggle with an adult Melissa — one of the survivors who went into hiding after faking her own death.
“Yellowjackets’ stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins and Simone Kessell, with Elijah Wood in a recurring role and Oscar winner Hillary Swank guest starring in season 3.
