Writer and director Bryan Bertino definitely knows a thing or two about terrifying audiences after unleashing his harrowing home invasion thriller “The Strangers” and then creating an extreme exercise in tension and dread with “The Dark and the Wicked.”
For his latest film, Bertino actually decided to draw upon his own fears after he started experiencing panic attacks and the dealt with the horrific reality about how anxiety can attack every single part of you so he decided to craft that into a horror film.
His intention was to bombard a character and to the same extent the audience with the same emotions he felt during some of his darkest moments.
The story in the film centers around a woman named Polly, who just hasn’t found direction in her life and nothing really seems to be going right, but that’s when she’s visited by a strange old woman who presents her with a box and an hour glass that makes demands for something she loves, something she hates and something she needs. If Polly doesn’t deliver, she’s guaranteed to die that same night …
