“The X-Files” reboot is officially happening at Hulu with Danielle Deadwyler serving as one of the leads with Ryan Coogler set to direct …

Get ready to believe again because “The X-Files” is back.

A reboot of the beloved sci-fi series is officially in the works with Hulu giving a pilot order to the show that originated in 1993 with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson playing a pair of FBI agents investigating unsolved cases involving paranormal and potentially extraterrestrial phenomenon. Oscar nominee Ryan Coogler has wanted to put his spin on an “X-Files” reboot for years and now he’s getting his chance after signing onto write and direct the pilot episode.

Danielle Deadwyler — best known for roles in films such as “The Harder They Fall,” “Till” and “Carry-On” as well as a memorable appearance in an episode of “The Bear” — has been cast in one of the lead roles as one of the FBI agents now charged with investigating the X-Files.

Here’s the synopsis for the new series:

“Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”

In the original series, Anderson’s Dana Scully was assigned specifically to debunk theories proposed by Duchovny’s Agent Fox Mulder but both end up finding and discovering more than they ever expected. The show spawned two feature length films and a revival that aired on FOX.

Jennifer Yale — who previously worked on series such as “See” and “The Copenhagen Test” — is set to serve as showrunner with Coogler also on board as an executive producer.

The second lead role opposite Deadwyler has not been cast yet.

“That show is what I used to watch with my mom,” Coogler said while speaking to Josh Horowitz in 2025  “It’s one of the most beautiful American television shows ever made. Chris Carter will tell you, he was trying to make Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and for me that’s what it’s all about: When you as an artist [are] trying to capture something that you were influenced by and make something totally new.”

Carter, the original creator behind “The X-Files,” will also have an executive producer credit but he’s not expected to be involved with the creative side of the new series.

There are few directors hotter in Hollywood right now than Coogler as his latest film “Sinners” just broke the record for the most Academy Award nominations in history with 16. Beyond a Best Picture nomination, Coogler is also nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Now he’ll crossover to television to bring “The X-Files” back to life with the new series.
