In 2022, production started on a trilogy of new films that set out to remake and reboot “The Strangers” — an iconic and beloved home invasion thriller but this time the story would take place over three films.
Madelaine Petsch stepped into the lead role as Maya, a girl who manages to survive a trio of masked killers who come after her and her fiancé at their secluded cabin in rural Oregon.
In total, all three films featured a massive 290 page script and all three movies were filmed back-to-back. But reception for “The Strangers: Chapter 1” weren’t exactly enthusiastic, although the film made over $48 million at the box office on just an $8.5 million budget.
With reactions over the first film so mixed, director Renny Harlin returned for additional shooting days to reshape and refine the story taking place in the next two movies.
The second film picks up right where the first left off with Maya hospitalized from her injuries but word soon spreads across town that there was a survivor after a young couple were attacked and nearly butchered by three masked assailants the night before.
Maya soon finds herself in another harrowing chase for survival as her attackers come to finish the job and she’s not sure who from the town she can actually trust …..
