The trailer for Edgar Wright’s adaptation of “The Running Man” features a more faithful adaptation of the Stephen King novel with Glen Powell taking center stage in this one…
Everybody’s favorite action star Glen Powell has already faced off off with fighter pilots and deadly twisters and now he’s going up against a game show where survival is the only key to winning.
The first trailer for Edgar Wright’s adaptation “The Running Man” — based on a classic novel by Stephen King — arrived on Tuesday with Powell taking center stage as a man desperate to help his family and he volunteers to compete a game show where contestants are literally hunted down and killed.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
“In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.”
Of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger famously made an adaptation of “The Running Man” in the 1980’s but that film veered far away from King’s original work. Powell has stated that Wright gets back to the heart of what made King’s book such a remarkable, dystopian thriller.
Take a look at the new trailer and judge for yourself and get ready for “The Running Man” to land in theaters on November 7.
