In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to crank up the Banjo & Sullivan and buy a Captain Spauling for President t-shirt as we review Rob Zombie’s sequel “The Devil’s Rejects” ….
Rob Zombie experienced a living nightmare making his first film “House of 1,000 Corpses,” which was dumped by numerous studios and almost became a lost movie.
But Zombie refused to give up and even though the film didn’t receive many positive reviews after first being released, the movie definitely found its audience and ended up being a success.
Thanks to Lionsgate, Zombie didn’t have nearly as many problems making his next film, which he decided would serve as a continuation of his first movie but he never liked the idea of a sequel.
So Zombie took some of the main characters from “House of 1,000 Corpses” and decided to create an entirely different look and feel. He preferred referencing films like “Bonnie and Clyde” and “Once Upon a Time in the West” when creating the look and feel for the movie rather than treating it as a straight up horror film.
He cast genre favorites like Ken Foree, PJ Soles and Michael Berryman in supporting roles and found a kindred spirit of sorts for his leading man with William Forsythe taking up the mantle with inspiration from actors like Robert Shaw.
Set after the events of “House of 1,000 Corpses, Sheriff John Quincy Wydell sets out to avenge his brother’s death and he goes on a manhunt to track down the infamous Firefly family and make them suffer and pay for all the horrific acts they committed ….
