It’s safe to say Warner Bros. knew they had a hit on their hands when test audiences were through the roof reviewing “The Conjuring” prior to its release so the studio wasted no time in ordering an immediate sequel.
A rare feat these days but the studio has so much trust in director James Wan that work began on “The Conjuring 2” right away with original writers Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes returning to pen the script, along with some additional help from “Final Destination 5” writer Eric Heisserer and David Leslie Johnson.
The new film was based on arguably the most famous paranormal event in England history with the Enfield Haunting after a family was allegedly tormented in their home by a malevolent spirit in the late 1970s.
The case earned a ton of headlines and famed American demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren event took a trip across the pond to investigate after they came to fame at home for their involvement in the real life Amityville Horror.
In reality, the Warrens had very little to do with the Enfield poltergeist but the film takes some creative liberties with Ed and Lorraine investigating the event for the church to find out why a little girl has suddenly become possessed by a ghost and a house that rattles and shakes down to the bone after being inhabited by a demonic spirit …
