Taylor Lautner is returning to his roots but this time playing himself in a very meta series titled “Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter” in development at Amazon/MGM Studios…

Taylor Lautner knows a thing or two about werewolves after playing one for several films in the “Twilight” film series.

Now the actor is returning to those roots in a very meta role for a new series titled “Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter” where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. The series is currently in development at Amazon/MGM Studios with Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — best known as part of the Radio Silence team behind film such as “Scream 5” and “Scream 6” — on board to direct and serve as executive producers.

Daisy Gardener is the creator behind the series and she’s set to serve as showrunner.

Here’s the premise for the series:

“After wrapping the final ‘Twilight’ film, Taylor Lautner vanished from the spotlight. Fans speculated, tabloids theorized—but the truth is wilder than fiction. Taylor wasn’t just taking a mental health break. He was preparing for his real calling…Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter.

“Playing himself, Taylor is drawn into a secret society of werewolf trackers who need his unique expertise. As he navigates his double life—Hollywood actor by day, supernatural warrior by night—Taylor must wrestle with the ultimate irony: fighting the very creatures that made him famous. Between saving the world, reviving his career, and falling in love, he faces the ultimate question—what happens when your biggest role becomes your greatest enemy?”

Lautner reacted to the news with a post on Instagram that joked “Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in.”

While it’s true that Lautner did fall out of the spotlight following his role as Jacob Black in the “Twilight” saga, he’s stayed busy more recently but now he’s planning on playing himself in this new series that definitely sounds like a wild ride.

The series is being produced by Tornante, the same independent studio responsible for series such as “BoJack Horseman” and the Amazon Series “Undone.”

Stay tuned for more news on “Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter” as it becomes available.
