Oscar winner Steven Spielberg has always wanted to direct his own horror film but then he sees a movie like “Weapons” and it satisfies his urge…

Imagine making a movie so good that Steven Spielberg says you know what, even I can’t do that.
Ahead of his next film “Disclosure Day” hitting theaters this year, the Oscar winning director spoke about some of his favorite genres including horror. While most believe that one of his most famous movies is already quite terrifying — that would be 1975’s “Jaws” — Spielberg says he’s actually always wanted to crossover to do a full blown horror film.
The only problem? When Spielberg watches a film like Zach Cregger’s “Weapons,” it completely satisfies that urge and he decides to do something else instead.
“I haven’t directed a horror film yet, and I’ve always wanted to, and someday I may,” Spielberg told Empire Magazine. “But there have been some great horror films out already that satisfy that itch.
“When I see a great horror film like ‘Weapons,’ I don’t have an itch I need to scratch. I see ‘Weapons,’ and it doesn’t make me want to make a horror film that’s as scary or scarier than ‘Weapons.’ It satisfies me so completely, it actually arrests my desire to someday make a really, really scary movie.”
Cregger hasn’t responded to that immense compliment but that might just be the best review yet for his second feature film, which already received overwhelming rave reviews while also earning over $270 million at the box office.
The critically acclaimed film also helped Amy Madigan win her first Academy Award after she captured the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the villainous Aunt Gladys in “Weapons.”
It remains to be seen if Spielberg ever decides to make his own horror movie but Cregger is definitely sticking with the genre, although his next film isn’t expected to play anything like “Weapons” or his first film “Barbarians.”
Instead, Cregger is directing a reboot of “Resident Evil” based on the classic video game series and he’s promised this is going to be a massive departure from his other movies.
That film is slated for release on September 18 and we’ll see if Spielberg is a big fan of that movie as well!
