“Scream 7” almost didn’t happen.
Following the immense success of “Scream 6,” sequel was ordered with “Happy Death Day” director Christopher Landon brought on board with several cast members expected to return but the studio behind the film faced intense backlash after firing star Melissa Barrera for social media posts she made about the conflict happening in Israel and Palestine.
Fans revolted, Landon and Jenna Ortega left the project and it appeared the sequel might be dead. But time passed and a lucrative offer was made for Neve Campbell to return to the franchise and reprise her role as Sidney Prescott.
Original “Scream” screenwriter Kevin Williamson was also invited back but this time he would not only co-write the script but he would sit in the director’s chair for the first time after learning from Wes Craven across three other “Scream” films.
The cast filled out with familiar faces from the past including Matthew Lillard returning to the franchise and the film was off and running.
The latest sequel takes picks up with Sidney once again haunted by her past when a new Ghostface emerges but this time the killer is determined to go after everyone Sidney loves — including her daughter Tatum ….
