In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to stay up until dawn when the cock crows and burn down the castle as we review the 2024 gothic horror film “Nosferatu”…

Many filmmakers call a project a “lifelong dream” but that really was the case for Robert Eggers and his passion for the original 1922 film “Nosferatu.”

He first sought out the movie while he was still a child and immediately after watching a grainy VHS version of the film, Eggers was entranced. While in high school, Eggers went as far as producing his own stage version of “Nosferatu” that was actually done in black and white.

The idea to eventually recreate his own version of the film never left him but Eggers ended up taking on other projects first such as his breakout hit “The Witch.” He never stopped pursuing his dream project but it took several years to finally get the backing he needed to make the movie.

He ended up casting Lily Rose-Depp in the lead role and he found his mysterious and foreboding Count Orlock with the always talented Bill Skarsgard.

The story Eggers crafted stayed much the same to the original with a young woman named Ellen haunted by visions of a ghastly creature coming to her at night and she’s tormented by her dreams even more after her husband travels far away to close a real estate deal with a reclusive buyer.

Ellen soon learns that her dreams and nightmares are becoming a reality once Count Orlock arrives in town…
