Mike Flanagan is once again teaming up with Stephen King but this time they’re making a new film based on ‘The Mist’….

Mike Flanagan just can’t quit Stephen King.
The famed writer and director is teaming up with the horror legend once again but this time they’re making a new film adaptation of the classic 1980 novella “The Mist” for Warner Bros.
Flanagan is set to write and direct the film with King producing based on his original 1980 novella that has previously been adapted into a film in 2007 as well as a short-lived TV series in 2017.
In “The Mist,” a small town in Maine is besieged by an eerie fog that covers the entire town after a terrifying thunderstorm knocks out all the power. David Drayton, a local artist, and his son along with their neighbor Brent Norton head into town to grab some supplies but while inside a grocery store, the mist arrives and with it a group of otherwordly creatures that lay waste to the town and anybody caught in their path.
The original novella was praised for its originality and the scope that King included in just a 238-page book.
Director Frank Darabont — another frequent collaborator with King — transformed the novella into his 2007 film starring Thomas Jane, Andre Braugher and Marcia Gay Harden that made just over $57 million at the box office while receiving mostly positive reviews. As time has passed, “The Mist” has been praised as one of the best adaptations of King’s work with the author crediting Darabont for giving the film a better ending than his book.
In fact, the ending of “The Mist” from 2007 is now hailed as one of the most shocking and disturbing endings in horror film history.
Obviously at this stage there’s no telling how Flanagan plans to adapt the original work from King into his film but it’s going to be interesting to see how this turns out considering the previous movie was released less than 20 years ago and remains a favorite for horror fans.
Of course, Flanagan has already adapted numerous works from King in the past including “Gerald’s Game,” “Doctor Sleep,” “The Life of Chuck” and the upcoming “Carrie” TV series for Amazon. He’s also optioned King’s Iconic “Dark Tower” series, which Flanagan has promised to transform into a series but that’s still in development.
