The “M3GAN” spinoff film “SOULM8TE” is seeking a new home after Universal dropped the movie from its release schedule …

The upcoming “M3GAN” spinoff film “SOULM8TE” needs a new significant other.
Originally slated for release in January, the film directed by Kate Dolan has been removed from the Universal release schedule and now the movie is being shopped for a new home after production was completed months ago.
The film is set in the same universe as the killer AI doll movie “M3GAN” but “SOULM8TE” is much more adult friendly with the movie centered around a man who acquires an artificially intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently-deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
The film was being described as a love letter to classic 1990’s erotic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.
“SOULM8TE” stars Claudia Doumit, Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, Isabelle Bonfrer, Emma Ramos and Sydney Blackburn.
It’s unknown why Universal changed course on releasing “SOULM8TE” but it could have something to do with the muted response to “M3GAN 2.0,” which was a highly anticipated release from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster but the sequel ended up with disappointing results at the box office.
After the original film earned over $180 million worldwide after being made for just $12 million, the sequel found far less success with movie making just over $39 million on a $25 million budget.
Now with Universal pulling “SOULM8TE” from its release schedule, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are shopping the film with hopes of finding a new distribution partner. There’s no word when the film might actually see the light of day.
