Glen Powell says he’s going to be very involved with the development of the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” reboot in the works…

Glen Powell is excited to get started on the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” reboot.
After he helped secure the rights to the long running horror franchise along with boutique indie studio A24, plans are already in motion for a new TV series based on the film originally directed by Tobe Hooper in 1974 with “Strange Darling” creator JT Mollner writing the show. There’s also early development on a new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” film but the TV series is expected to take priority for now.
Powell, who is a Texas native, was one of the biggest names pursuing the rights to the horror franchise and he says his passion for the original film is going to serve as a driving creative force for the upcoming reboot.
“I’m in a position in which the things that properties I really love and care about — ‘Texas Chain Saw’ is I think one of the most brilliant horror movies,” Powell told Variety. “It defined the genre and really was such a part of that era. I feel A24 is a place that’s really making such special things. They’re such a custodian and guardian of quality. We just really talked to the rights holders, JT Mollner and we have some other creatives around that are so passionate about what we’re doing, they have a really strong vision.
“Everybody around it really cares and when you have that sort of group mentality protecting something like that, I care about it, everybody cares about it, I know we’re going to do something really special with this. I’m feeling very, very good. It was a long process to get there but I know we have something really fun ahead.”
For now, Powell’s production company Barnstorm is producing the series but he’s not expected to actually star in the show, although he didn’t shut down the possibility that he could appear at some point.
More than anything, Powell wants to make sure his “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” reboot is a well crafted series that pays homage to the classic original film that he loves so much.
“I’m definitely going to be very involved [with the development],” Powell said.
There’s no word yet on how quickly things will get moving on the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ series but with the rights secured and Mollner in place as the creative force behind the show, it probably won’t take long.
But Powell seems legitimately excited to bring Leatherface back to terrify audiences again after the last few films haven’t exactly received rave reviews while the original is still considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time.
