Guillermo del Toro has created some of the most visually stunning and beautifully gothic films ever made.
He’s made beloved, fan favorite movies and even won an Oscar for Best Director in 2018 but one story that he always wanted to tell centered around a classic book written by an 18-year-old girl named Mary Shelley that was first released in 1818. As far back as 2008, del Toro said this was the movie he “would kill to make” but numerous attempts had been thwarted.
He nearly got his wish as part of his overall deal at Universal Pictures but when the studio decided to reboot its classic monster line, his dream died once again.
It wasn’t until 2023 when del Toro joined Netflix that he finally found a willing partner to fund his nightmarish vision about creator and creation. Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth joined the cast but Andrew Garfield eventually had to be replaced by “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi.
Nothing was going to stop del Toro this time and he finally went into production with his film centered around an ambitious surgeon and inventor named Victor Frankenstein, who sought to create life out of death but he could never imagine the monster that would emerge from his very hands …
