Devon Sawa is preparing for a showdown against Tarman.
The veteran actor best known for roles in films such as “Final Destination,” “Idle Hands” and the recent horror-comedy “Heart Eyes” as well as his run on the “Chucky” TV series has joined the cast of the new “Return of the Living Dead” film
The movie written and directed by Steve Wolsh is set up as a legacy sequel rather than a reboot or remake of the original 1985 classic from Dan O’Bannon.
The new “Return of the Living Dead” is set in a small Pennsylvania town in Christmas 1985, 18 months after the events of the original film when a pair of bumbling employees at the Uneeda Medical Supply warehouse accidentally unleash a toxic gas that brings the dead back to life.
Sawa is portraying Isaac Horton in the new film alongside cast members that include Casimere “Cash” Jollette as Delilah Horton, and Kynlee Heiman as Sophia Horton. Alexander Ward, a veteran stuntman, is portraying the iconic Tarman — the toxic waste zombie that haunted the original “Return of the Living Dead.”
Principle photography on the film has already commenced in Los Angeles with additional production expected to happen in Massachusetts later this year when the weather changes and snow hits the crowd since the movie takes place at Christmas time.
Initially, the hope was the “Return of the Living Dead” sequel would be released in 2025 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the original film but obviously those plans have since been scrapped. Now with the production expected to pick up again in late 2025, a release in 2026 seems possible.
