In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to strap on our on HAZMAT suits and avoid that green goo everywhere as we review the 2026 horror-comedy “Cold Storage”….
David Koepp is one of the most prolific screenwriters of the past half-century after writing films such as “Jurassic Park,” “Carlito’s Way,” “Snake Eyes,” “Panic Room, “Spider-Man” and even the upcoming Steven Spielberg film “Disclosure Day.”
But he always dreamed of writing in a more longform way, which gave him the push for his first novel published back in 2019.
He was inspired after walking down the street in New York City during a hot and muggy August day around 7 a.m. and he saw a security guard walking towards him, looking like he was either on his way to work or just finished a shift and he did not look happy.
Koepp immediately imagined what would happen if this guy so deeply unsatisfied by his crappy job had disaster strike at work and decided for that day, nobody was going to do his job any better.
He was then struck by his son being obsessed by a strain of zombie fungus that he was studying in school and he wrote a novel that reviewers called both scary and hilarious.
Fast forward a few years later and Koepp’s novel was transformed into a screenplay about a pair of storage facility workers who stumble upon a long hidden government secret and a deadly fungus that could wipe out the world if it broke free and a retired Federal agent tasked with stopping the spread …
