The “Saw” franchise might live again with Blumhouse in talks to acquire the series from its current owners at Twisted Pictures…

It turns out “Saw” might live again.

Blumhouse — one of the largest producers of horror films and TV series — is currently in talks to purchase the “Saw” franchise from Twisted Pictures with a potential deal being struck any day now. That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the news on Wednesday.

Negotiations for Blumhouse to buy the “Saw” franchise had actually happened previously but the two sides weren’t able to reach a deal with the financials just ultimately proving to serve as a bridge too far. But talks have resumed and now it appears that Twisted Pictures is nearing a deal to sell the “Saw” franchise to Blumhouse.

If the deal gets done, “Saw” would actually be returned to its original created because Blumhouse merged with Atomic Monster in 2024 — the company founded and ran by “Saw” director James Wan.

Twisted Pictures is run by Oren Koules and Mark Burg and they share ownership with Lionsgate, who has distributed the “Saw” films since 2004. Blumhouse would be purchasing the Twisted Pictures portion of the ownership state, which would allow them creative control over the franchise.

The original “Saw” was made on a budget of just $1.2 million but the independent feature would go onto gross over $104 million worldwide at the box office. The success of that original film launched a film franchise that has now spanned 10 films while earning more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

The potential sale comes together after a disagreement between the studio and the producers behind the intended 11th “Saw” film eventually gave up on producing the movie and it appeared the entire franchise might be dead and buried.

That may be the catalyst leading back to these talks with Blumhouse to potentially purchase the “Saw” franchise after previously igniting huge box office returns for other series such as “Halloween,” “Insidious” and “Paranormal Activity.”

While a deal isn’t done yet, the two sides appear deep in talks and it’s possible that an agreement is reached soon that would see Blumhouse take over primary ownership and then an 11th “Saw” film is almost guaranteed to happen.

Stay tuned for more information on this news as it becomes available!
