Luca Guadagnino, best known for his work on films such as “Challengers” and “Bones and All” is in talks to direct the upcoming “American Psycho” remake from Lionsgate…

Soon someone other than Christian Bale is going to be screaming “try getting a reservation at Dorsia now you fucking stupid bastard!”

The upcoming “American Psycho” remake — based on the 1991 book by Bret Easton Ellis, which was famously transformed into the iconic 2000 film of the same name — has apparently found a director.

Luca Guadagnino — best known for his work on films such as “Call Me By Your Name” and “Bones and All” as well as the 2024 film “Challengers” — is in talks to direct the upcoming “American Psycho” adaptation with a script from Scott Z. Burns.

Burns, who also wrote the 2011 film “Contagion,” isn’t adapting his script based on the 2000 film directed by Mary Harron but rather a new take on the original novel. Lionsgate is producing the project.

“We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson told Variety about hiring Guadagnino. “Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP.”

The 2000 film earned just over $34 million on a $7 million budget with a fairly faithful adaptation from the original book as Bale portrayed 20-something investment banker Patrick Bateman, who is secretly a serial killer in his spare time. The movie was polarizing with both critics and audiences but as years passed, “American Psycho” became a cult classic and one of the most quotable horror films in recent history.

Now Lionsgate hopes to capitalize on the current success of horror films in theaters with a remake of “American Psycho.”

While he’s directed a wide range of films during his career, Guadagnino definitely has experience in the genre with his cannibal love story “Bones and All” as well as his criminally underrated remake of “Suspiria” that starred Dakota Johnson.

Now it looks like he’ll attempt to work his magic again remaking “American Psycho” for a new audience after taking on directing duties for the upcoming film.
