The first teaser for “Alien: Earth” has arrived along with plot details for the highly anticipated new series from “Fargo” creator and showrunner Noah Hawley. The series is set to debut exclusively on Hulu sometime in 2025.
The teaser doesn’t offer much outside of a reveal that shows a reflection of the Earth on the head of a rather angry Xenomorph showing its teeth just before the camera cuts away.
Perhaps more important than the brief teaser is the plot reveal that gives us our first idea of what this “Alien” TV series is all about.
“When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”
Now there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding the timeline for this “Alien” prequel, especially now that we’ve actually seen the Xenomorph in the trailer. Originally the show was teased as a prequel taking place several years before the events of 1979’s “Alien” but that could make it tough for the Xenomorphs to appear on Earth, especially given the timeline for both “Prometheus’ and “Alien: Covenant.”
Then again, “Alien: Earth” could just essentially serve as a spinoff series that brings the Xenomorphs to Earth and gives us an enthralling series that doesn’t necessarily need to tie to all the various movies, which now includes “Alien: Romulus” with those events taking place 20 years after “Alien” and 37 years prior to the events of “Aliens.”
One thing is for certain — Hawley is a master storyteller after working on several Emmy award winning seasons of “Fargo” and the criminally underrated Marvel series “Legion,” which also aired on FX.
For now, let the speculation begin on how the show does or doesn’t tie into the larger “Alien” universe but at least now we have some details about the plot and a first teaser for the series. It’s likely that a full length trailer can’t be far behind!
