Writer and director Damian McCarthy learned how to make a contained horror film terrifying out of necessity with his debut film “Caveat” with almost no money whatsoever.
He carried that same philosophy into his second film “Oddity,” which also didn’t have a very big budget so he put the majority of that movie into a single home that ultimately created one of the most original scary stories in recent years.
For his latest film, McCarthy actually had a bigger budget but what intrigued him most once again took him back to a single location because he was fascinated with the idea about making a haunted hotel movie.
McCarthy was a huge fan of films like “The Shining” and “Innkeepers” but the genre itself wasn’t exactly huge in horror so he decided to take a stab at it himself.
He also loved the idea of making a horror film that’s built around surviving a hellish night like something out of “Evil Dead.”
In his latest work, an American writer travels to Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes and he returns to the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon. But after arriving, he discovers that there’s something strange lurking around every corner and he’s soon thrown into chaos after hearing tales about a witch that haunts this particular hotel …
