Horror had a big night at the 2026 Academy Awards with “Sinners” taking home four gold statues, “Frankenstein” with three and more …

The Academy Awards don’t always recognize the best of the best from horror but there was no way to ignore some truly awe-inspiring achievements over the past year with films like “Sinners,” “Frankenstein” and “Weapons” receiving numerous nominations and wins.

The Oscars were no different on Sunday night.

“Sinners” — which earned the most nominations for any film in history with 16 — ultimately took home four Oscars including Michael B. Jordan’s win for Best Actor playing twin brothers Smoke and Stack. Jordan came out on top, riding the momentum from his win at the Actor Awards as he became the frontrunner in the weeks leading up to the show.

Ryan Coogler won his first Oscar as he took home the award for Best Original Screenplay for “Sinners” — a film he wrote while paying tribute to his own family’s history with blues music and an uncle that taught him how to love that genre.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman to ever win Best Cinematography for her work on “Sinners” while Ludwig Goransson captured the Oscar for Best Score for the music he created for “Sinners.”

While Zach Cregger’s “Weapons” was surprisingly shut out of a lot of categories, Amy Madigan won for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Aunt Gladys.

“Frankenstein” also had a good night with three total awards at the Oscars including wins for Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Costume Design.

Many of the biggest awards came down to a race between “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” with Paul Thomas Anderson’s film taking home the biggest prize for Best Picture as well as Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Still, a great night for horror at the Oscars after so many award worthy films have been passed over in previous years but “Sinners,” “Frankenstein” and “Weapons” are all going home with awards following the 2026 Academy Awards.
