Director Luc Besson has earned a reputation for his lavish and oftentimes outlandish productions with striking visuals and a passion for eccentric storytelling.
But for his latest film, Besson decided to dive into Bram Stoker’s classic “Dracula” but not because he was desperate to remake a story that had already been told a thousand times.
Instead, Besson really wanted to work with actor Caleb Landry Jones again after starring in the film “Dogman” and the French director decided to seek a new way into this classic gothic tale.
Besson called his film a “romantic approach” for the adaptation that’s ultimately a “love story about a man who waits for 400 years for the reincarnation of his wife.”
Besson also admitted that he wasn’t a huge horror fan but he injected elements of terror into his film that plays out like a tragic romantic story set against the backdrop of vampires and the hunters seeking to kill them.
