“Sinners” is now the most nominated film in Oscar history with other horror films such as “Weapons” and “The Ugly Stepsister” earning Academy Award nominations as well….

Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” is still slaying the competition.

On Thursday, “Sinners” officially became the film with the most nominations in Academy Award history with 16 nominations, which breaks a record held by several past movies including “Titanic.”

Coogler received his first ever nomination for Best Director while Michael B. Jordan earned a nomination for Best Actor where he’ll square off with past winner Leonard DiCaprio, who was recognized for his work in “One Battle After Another” along with Timothee Chalamet in “Marty Supreme,” Wagner Moura for “The Secret Agent” and Ethan Hawke in “Blue Moon.”

Of course, “Sinners” was also nominated for Best Picture with many critics believing the award could come down to Coogler’s soulful vampire flick and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” as the odds on favorites.

Delroy Lindo earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in one of the bigger surprises for “Sinners” at the 2026 Oscars. Wunmi Mosaku also earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Beyond his nomination for Best Director, Coogler also received a nomination for his writing with “Sinners” also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

“Sinners” was not only critically acclaimed but the film enters the Oscar race as one of the biggest earning films with more than $368 million at the worldwide box office. Coogler, whose film “Black Panther” earned a Best Picture nod in 2019, bet big that his first original film would find an audience and now the movie earned the most nominations in Oscar history.

In addition to the massive success of “Sinners” heading into the 2026 Oscars, Amy Madigan also earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Zach Cregger’s “Weapons.” Madigan wowed audiences with her sinister and disturbing performance as Aunt Gladys and now she’ll get a chance to earn an Academy Award for her performance.

“The Ugly Stepsister” — a film that continues to earn praise long after its release — also earned an Oscar nomination Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Of course, the other major horror film to score multiple nominations is Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” which is up for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay with Jacob Elordi also receiving a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The Oscars broadcast is set for Sunday, March 15 starting at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.
