Andy Muschietti is reportedly already working on “IT: Welcome to Derry” season 2 even if the show hasn’t been officially renewed yet …

It appears Pennywise will return for a second installment of “IT: Welcome to Derry.”

Despite the immense popularity and overwhelmingly positive reviews for the spinoff series based on Stephen King’s original novel “IT” and the massively successful films “IT” and “IT: Chapter Two,” Warner Bros. and HBO Max have yet to officially renew “IT: Welcome to Derry” for season 2. That said, it could be Warner Bros. pending sale to Netflix that is slowing down renewals but that’s not stopping series creator Andy Muschietti from working on the next story for a planned three season arc.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “IT: Welcome to Derry” season 2 is already “in the works” with Muschietti developing the the show despite not receiving the official go ahead from the studio. The reason that’s relevant is Muschietti was also on board to direct the new film “The Brave and the Bold” — a Batman based movie set in the new DC Universe from James Gunn.

Christina Hodson, who has previously worked on “The Flash” and “Birds of Prey” for DC, is writing the script for “The Brave and the Bold” film but timing is really going to determine if Muschietti can stick around to direct. Of course, he also partnered with Hodson on “The Flash,” which he also directed but his commitment to “IT: Welcome to Derry” could serve as a possible obstacle for his return to the DC Universe.

While Batman fans may get bummed out at that news, “IT: Welcome to Derry” viewers should get excited to know that Muschietti is working on a second season of the series.

The first season was set in 1962 and Muschietti previously revealed that he planned to go back in time for the next two installments with season 2 expected to take place in 1935 and then the final season would happen in 1908, which spaces out 27 years between the entity known as IT returns to ravage the town of Derry, Maine.

Now we just have to await word from HBO Max that “IT: Welcome to Derry” is officially renewed but this latest news is a sign that things are moving in the right direction.
