After watching the classic horror film “Poltergeist” for the millionth time, filmmaker Ben Leonberg noticed the opening scene where the family’s golden retriever recognized before anybody else that something was off with their house and that gave him the idea about making a movie seen from the point of view of a dog.
That was 2012.
Five years later, Leonberg got a new puppy he named Indy and that gave him further inspiration for his project but he was still trying to figure out exactly how you would tell an effectively scary story with a dog that can’t talk or react in the way a human would.
Initially he recreated scenes from “The Shining” putting Indy where Danny once existed and he learned how to use those visuals as an effective storytelling technique.
Leonberg eventually started production on his film and spent over 400 days across the next three years capturing scenes with Indy in the lead role.
The story centers around a man named Todd, who relocates from his home in New York City to a secluded, isolated home previously owned by his grandfather and as he deals with some serious health issues, his beloved dog Indy realizes that they’re not actually alone in the house
