The upcoming “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot has added several new cast members including a star from “Severance” but there’s still no word on legacy cast members joining the show…
There’s a new Scooby crew in town for the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot but still no word if any of the legacy cast members are returning for the highly anticipated followup series where Sarah Michelle Gellar reprises her role as the famed vampire slayer.
The new cast members all fit teenage roles alongside Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who is portraying the new vampire slayer in the upcoming reboot, with her character described as an introverted high school student named Nova. Of course, Gellar is there playing Buffy Summers, although her interaction with Nova isn’t known just yet.
As far as the new cast members, Sarah Bock is joining the show after she became a popular member of the Apple TV series “Severance” during the second season. In the “Buffy” reboot, she’s playing Gracie, the ringleader for a group of church-going students.
Faly Rakotohavana is also joining the show to play Hugo, a privileged, likable high-school student who is a geek.
Ava Jean is playing Larkin, another student described as a “chronic do-gooder.”
Daniel Di Tomasso is portraying Abe, Nova’s single father who is a photojournalist.
And finally Jack Cutmore-Scott is joining the show as Mr. Burke, a popular high school teacher.
The pilot episode is being directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao with a script from Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Zhao actually played a part in convincing Gellar to return to arguably her most famous role after she had previously shut down any chance that she would ever play Buffy again.
Now as far as the legacy cast members go, there’s still no word if any of them are going to join the show but Gellar made it clear in an interview with Vanity Fair that she wanted to bring everybody back if possible.
“We will try to find a balance between new and old characters,” Gellar said. “My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”
There’s a long list of potential cast members who could return including fan favorites like Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Stewart Head, David Boreanaz, Emma Caufield and James Marsters. It’s unknown if any one or all of them might make an appearance in the reboot.
For now, get to know the new cast members with a table read already underway for the series that is expected to air on Hulu, which means production isn’t far off from starting.
