Tom Rhys Harries has landed the lead role in the upcoming film “Clayface” directed by James Watkins with a script by Mike Flanagan….
DC Studios is dipping its big toe into horror with the upcoming “Clayface” movie and the lead role for the film has been cast.
Tom Rhys Harries — who starred in the Uma Thurman led Apple TV series “Suspicion” as well as films like “The Return” and “The Gentlemen” from Guy Ritchie — has landed the lead role of the shape-shifting villain best known as a member of Batman’s rogues gallery.
DC co-CEO’s James Gunn and Peter Safran reportedly conducted an extensive seach to find the perfect person to play Clayface with other notable names in the mix such as “Sinners” star Jack O’Connell, “The White Lotus” season 2 standout Leo Woodall and “1917” star George MacKay among those vying for the role.
In the end, the 35-year-old actor from Wales landed the lead role in the film being directed by James Watkins, who was behind the camera for the recent “Speak No Evil” remake, with a script from horror master Mike Flanagan.
“Clayface” is centered a B-movie actor who becomes a walking piece of clay after injecting himself with a substance in an attempt to keep himself relevant.
The film is expected to only have a $40 million budget — pennies compared to most major superhero movies — with a stripped down esthetic based on Flanagan’s script.
“Clayface” is another major swing from DC Studios, which has already launched TV projects under Gunn and Safran’s leadership but the real launching point for the studio comes in July when “Superman” lands in theaters. There’s also a “Supergirl” movie coming out in 2026 with “Clayface” slated for release on September 11, 2026.
The rest of the cast for “Clayface” hasn’t been revealed yet but with this latest piece of news, the first major domino has fallen. Production on the “Clayface” film is expected to start later this year the Warner Bros Leavesden studio in the United Kingdom.
