Talks about resurrecting the “Final Destination” film franchise happened for years after the series went dormant following the fifth sequel’s release in 2011.
Jon Watts — a director made famous from his work on several “Spider-Man” films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — expressed his interest in getting involved in bringing the franchise back to life and he personally worked on a new story alongside screenwriters Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick.
Warner Bros. was all about returning to see what was next for death’s design and the project found a directing duo after Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein showed their passion for the franchise by actually pulling off a wild stunt where one of them was decapitated during a meeting with executives to pitch their idea.
With the directors and writers secured, the new sequel got into production with the story centered around a woman who manages to escape death during a disastrous high rise collapse in 1968 while simultaneously saving hundreds more with her premonition.
Fast forward to present day and now death is coming back around — not only for her but the families of every survivor who was never meant to make it out of that building alive….
